French steel shield France 13th century, fleur de-lis

  • In the 12th century with the introduction of the pot
helmet, the individual knight could no longer be
recognized by his face, and another means of
    identification became necessary. Therefore their
shields were painted in boldly contrasting colours, we
are here offering one which has a display of 9 fleur-delis, obviously of French origin. We are offering a
reenactors’ copy of such a shield made from steel,
reinforced in the centre and with a wooden grip
attached by 2 screws. Shield dimensions:
    68 cms.(27″) x 49cms.(19″)
These shields are available in plywood or steel sheet as
    per your choice,
