This is the solid brass gimbaled binnacle helmet compass. It has single fuel lamp on one side. These
helmet compasses were originally designed for use in lifeboats. This is a beautifully crafted, quality
reproduction of an antique Binnacle Compass. The Gimbaled Binnacle Compass is enclosed in a
polished brass case with a round glass window. It can be illuminated with the built-in oil lamp on the
side. The compass is available with either an air or liquid-damped compass card. Both have a solid
brass enclosure and are fully gasketed. The compass measures 7 inches (17.8 cm) tall, 9 inches (22.9
cm) wide; the base is 7¼ inches (18.4 cm) in diameter. We have recently improved this compass by
fabricating the case using heavy 20-gauge brass. This regular sized Binnacle Compass is
approximately half the size as the large sized Binnacle Compass. While this compass is fully
functional, it is not intended for marine navigation.
